Does anyone else ever just hate-fuck nasty style an idol who's practically an image of your younger self and who's trying to drag you back into the past that haunts you day and night?  No?

The visual presentation in this VN is simply stupendous from start to finish!  I loved the creativity and variety with it, with how the display ranged everywhere from comic-style bubbles to IM clients to simple textboxes that quickly became a part of the scenery proper, heheheh~  I also quite enjoyed how everything came together in the end: For as much as she might try to deny it, Seolyeong is no less hungry than Amarys is, and is desperate for the flair and passion of her past to come roaring back to consume her~

Great work!

P.S.: I was caught completely off-guard when Ascension started playing, lol

a gorgeous game <3 i know i already mentioned, but i knew so very little about idol culture before i started reading, and it was still really accessible and engaging in that regard.  and now i feel like i've learned something. all idol-fan relationships are like this, probably ;)

here's my fan art, which you've already seen. i thought i would post it in your comments as well, for when the jam server goes away.

they were fun to draw. but difficult! very difficult

Everything from the writing prose to the visuals to the music is so gorgeous. I've been an avid kpop fan for a long time, so I could empthasize with Amarys and Seolyeong's feelings about what being an idol means to them and the immense internal and external pressure that they face.  I think the motif of the ribbons was a really fun touch as it represents the entanglement that the two have with each other.  I have a bunch of other jumbled thoughts, but in short this was such a beautiful game, I really enjoyed it!

Beautiful, raw, captivating. The presentation is amazing with all the little unique touches for each scene, and the prose is like a fist around your heart.  I loved the use of colour, and the noodles scene was particularly memorable with the way Amarys' bowl empties like a ticking clock. I love, love, love yuri where women are obsessed with each other in extremely unhealthy ways, and the setup of idol/ex-idol rather than the more one-sided idol/fan made the parasociality here deliciously twisted.

(I do agree with a previous comment that the all-caps font can be a little hard to read, but that's my only real criticism)

This was great. Idols with toxic yuri relationship dynamics? Count me in! Each scene also feels great since they have different, unique presentation elements that specify the mood and tone. I really liked the attention to detail.

But as much as I love the game, I think the game does suffer from some accessibility issues. I find the font choice for narration and dialog tough to read as this is a rather long game and I don’t find reading an all-caps font comfortable. It’s hard for me to parse letters and words after a certain point. The font size is also really small, and because the game uses specialized screen layouts, the usual scaling up font size found in Ren’Py’s accessibility window doesn’t work. Things just break, of course.

So, I ended up dealing with the default font size, and the game made me squint a bit too much. Which is a shame because I really love the aesthetic of the game, the characters’ relationship with each other and idols, and the many original assets to ground the game even more. I would love this game even more if the game was more readable for me.

This was still a good game, even if I admit it caused me some eyestrain. I would like more people to play this game if people can handle the small font size. It’s got a unique vibe that I really adore.

love love loved this one!!! it reminded me a little of the yuri i yearned to see in perfect blue but never got to have. seolyeong and amarys's back and forth about repression and hunger in regards to the idol industry and making art was great, and i cheered when their messy bloody sex scene pulled seolyeong into making music again. the illustrations are also gorgeous and i'm a huge fan of this vn!!!

this is a lovely compliment, that we could remind you of one of the most classic and well-beloved idol exploration films of all time, and even fulfill something that was missing. thank you so much!!!

Excellent Psychological Horror. So fascinating and tackles the intersection of dreams, artistry and identity in the most delicious way possible. Your writing during the sex scenes makes me feel like a rusty knife is scraping through me and I’m loving every bit of it. Your presentation is excellent and super unique as well. Perfect ending as well.

thank you!! i’m always happy when a reader says they felt something off of my writing. we tried our best to synergize both the art and the prose, i’m glad it clicked for you!

Oooooh wow, that was not what I expected at all!

First I just wanna say, the art and presentation of the VN was impeccable. The splashes of warm, irradiated pink with the greyscale aesthetic was incredible, and the paneling of the text bubbles was so well executed!

Second, the relationship between and idol and a fan, and the levels of parasocialness from both sides are such a good topic to make a toxic yuri about, and this one really sold it for me. Having Amarys represent the feelings and hunger that Seolyeong had repressed for years, and it continuing to boil over until everything just. snaps. And through violent, messy, erotic passion, she returns to her craft.

Ugh, this is incredible, what a beautiful game. Thank you for sharing your art.

k: Truly, nothing hits quite like idols selfcest. I hope more people come around to it, haha. Thank you for the lovely comment!

I didn't have much time during this jam to draw that many assets due to a tight schedule so I tried to lean into the strengths of the minimalist palette and make it so that each illustration was delivered with strong visual impact.

To make up for the sparse art/backgrounds, I invested a bulk of my time on animating the positions of the panels and text to set up clear, distinct boundaries between the left and right (idol/fan) identities. I wanted the presentation to circle back into the themes as cohesively as possible.  Everything about Amarys had to pop out in the midst of the monochrome in Seolyeong's pov like a spark of hope, as Seolyeong's ribbon tether to art like a lifeline.  And yet this passion Seolyeong harbors for Amarys/idolhood is what simultaneously destroys her yet saves her. Thank you for catching onto the details behind the production! I appreciate it a lot!

Clicked onto this one because Seolyeong was super handsome in the promo image, stayed and enjoyed the reflecting on her past and the way that tied into the overall story and romance. Really enjoyed it, beautiful presentation.

k: Seolyeong is absolute eye candy, I don't blame Amarys at all. Thank you so much for being here and for leaving a comment! I'm grateful that you gave the vn a shot and stayed for the ride.

The relationship one has to art is an intimate subject for the lead writer and I. In a lot of ways, our personal experiences were cannibalized into the narrative and we hope that the reflection piece resonates with other creators who wish to create but feel like they can't as well.

Wow!! The visual presentation is absolutely impeccable. I love the variety with how the two characters are presented (especially the bowls of noodles!). The girls' tryst in the abandoned building was breathtaking.

k: Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun experimenting with the paneling format to try to bring the script to life. It was my first time working on a vn and I had a lot more envisioned cinematically but when it came to execution within the jam's time constraints, I got humbled p quickly and cut out a lot of the storyboard/art.

The food scene was my favorite scene to work on, to a self-indulgent degree. When I imagined the characters' interactions, I tried to isolate their gestures or suggestions of movement by honing in onto their body language or the objects affected by their movement as if it were the most honest performance of the self. There was extra effort to the staging/positioning of the characters to set up the rules, boundaries and parallels, and to break down or to overlap said identities, respectively, the way Seolyeong perceived them along their journey. I'm so glad you enjoyed my fluid interpretation of the characters! I appreciate it a lot!

oouuughhhhh okay god

when i read the synopsis and tags i was under the impression seolyeong would go ahead and break their idol/fan agreement, but having it be amarys with her own obsession towards her former idol was so good.

seolyeong, an experienced, broken shell of a person after going through the motions of the idol industry and learning that her art doesn't matter to those in power. the realist, the adult that went to college and dropped music despite still loving it because if her art doesn't matter then what is she but a zombie? and then amarys, at the beginning of her career, child-like wonder permeating her every move and action, but still tough as nails. seolyeong hates her for the passion she lost, and amarys hates seolyeong because she sees one of the paths she can take down the road if none of this works out

it was crazy, you guys are insane. the art was so GOOD, atmospheric and raw for this type of story, it felt dreamy, in a nightmarish way. when she took the pink lightstick out i yelled. and then she fucked her with it and i smiled and yelled

in a meta sense, this story is so very you my friend/writer, and i feel honored to read it with the context of who you are. i always say this but you're my favorite author for all idol things. nobody gets Them like you do i think. dare i say..... you're my favorite member

thanks for this!!! i will cherish it forever. you guys inspire me <3

i already said, but i’m so glad you enjoyed it. it means the world that you like the VN,  when your love for idols and art inspires my own works and passions. what an absolute honor!! once again, thank you so much rinre!!!

A wonderful and haunting experience about parasociality, idol culture, and what it means to be an artist/idol.

You get it! Thank you so much for playing!
